[Recommended for ages 8-12] My memoir is about a young black girl growing up down South during the Jim Crow/Civil Rights era in Memphis, TN, the city where Dr. Martin Luther King was slain. I was so distraught by this that it ignited a burning desire to do something. I became involved and worked tirelessly to right the many wrongs that affected African Americans. Later in life, my focus was joining others to help make Dr. King's Day a Federal holiday. -Kathlyn J. Kirkwood [Hardcover]
